Stasis Thrombi Induced by Bacterial Endotoxin.

چکیده
• Previous studies in this laboratory have indicated that a combination of systemic hypercoagulability and retarded blood flow is capable of producing a red thrombus in the veins of animals. The hypothesis has been proposed that activation of the procoagulants involved in the formation of intrinsic thromboplastin produces massive thrombosis in large vessels in areas of markedly reduced blood flow. The purpose of this report is to provide evidence that single infusions of bacterial endotoxin are capable of inducing stasis thrombi in rabbits. Furthermore, data will be presented suggesting that this thrombogenic effect of endotoxin may be mediated in part through its action on a blood coagulation factor, plasma thromboplastin antecedent (Factor XI).

Effect of Bioflavonoid Quercetin on Endotoxin-Induced Hepatotoxicity and Oxidative Stress in Rat Liver
Septicaemia caused by gram-negative pathogens is a dangerous infection which is associated with high incidence of liver dysfunction. The severe and acute hepatotoxicity is presumably due to massive release of endotoxin into systemic circulation after bacterial killing. The direct toxic effect of endotoxin is probably due to the increased production of reactive oxygen intermediates as O 2 - , p...
متن کاملInferior vena cava ligation rapidly induces tissue factor expression and venous thrombosis in rats.
OBJECTIVE Although stasis is important in the pathogenesis of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), how it contributes to thrombogenesis is largely unknown. To gain mechanistic insight, we used a rat model of inferior vena cava (IVC) ligation. METHODS AND RESULTS Rats were subjected to IVC ligation for 15 to 60 minutes. Ligation resulted in rapid IVC dilatation and by 60 minutes, thrombi were detected ...
متن کاملPropylene-Glycol Aggravates LPS-Induced Sepsis through Production of TNF-α and IL-6
Background : Propylene glycol (1,2-propanediol, PG) is a commonly used solvent for oral, intravenous, as well as topical pharmaceutical preparations. While PG is generally considered to be safe, it has been known that large intravenous doses given over a short period of time can be toxic. Objective: To evaluate the effect of PG in sepsis induced by the bacterial endotoxin lipopolysaccharide (LP...

The Thrombotic Process and Its Complications Thrombi are composed of fibrin and blood cells and may form in any part of the cardiovascular system, including the veins, arteries, heart, and microcirculation. Because the relative proportions of cells and fibrin depend on hemodynamic factors, they differ in arterial and venous thrombi.12 Arterial thrombi form under conditions of high flow and are ...
متن کاملMeasuring of free endotoxin in alum-precipitated vaccine of haemorrhagic septicaemia by limulus amebocyte lysate test
Haemorrhagic septicaemia (HS) vaccine which is prepared in Razi Institute is used in endemic areas ofIran. Aluminum-hydroxide gel was used as adjuvant for preparing this vaccine. Post-vaccinal shock reactionswere the main complaint after use of this vaccine. In a previous study, we could improve the vaccine byalum-precipitation Pasteurella multocida cells and removing the liquid phase. In this ...
